Repurpose Old Used Lace Curtain in a Wine Bottle Cover

I will admit right here, right now that I dumpster dive. It's difficult for me to see a promising pile set out at curb-side and not investigate.

It was in a pile set on the curb that I found several lace curtain panels I washed, folded and set aside until I could find a new purpose for them like this cute wine bottle cover tied with a discarded ice skate shoe lace.

Pattern: Take a sheet of newspaper, unfold it and lay the bottle on its side then with a pencil or marker trace the perimeter of the bottle holding the pencil straight up (90 degrees to the paper) and against the glass bottle.

It doesn't have to be perfect.

Cut the paper pattern about a half an inch outside the line you drew then  wrap the pattern around the bottle to ensure there's enough material for the seam.

It took a couple of times of drawing then cutting before the paper overlapped enough for a decent size seam.

Sew it: Fold the top of the cover over about a quarter of an inch and stitch then fold the entire cover in half long ways with the inside of the cover facing out.

Stitch a quarter inch seam the length of the cover then slip it over a wine bottle.

Bow: Weave the shoe lace through the holes in the lace curtain, tie a bow then clip the ends if they're too long.

Keep for yourself, slide over a full bottle of wine for the host and hostess of a party or give as a gift.

Maple Wooden Wine Bottle Holder with Lighted Wine Bottle

With a little time and the right tools, you can easily create this rustic maple wood bottle stand or holder with Christmas lights.
I used a piece of maple from a limb of a dead tree my brother cut. It had to set for a few months but the outcome provides a nice rustic look for home decor.
Do not center the hole in the wood. If  you do, the weight of the bottle will topple the entire piece backward.
Start above the center and create a series of holes by drilling several at a (approximate) 45 degree angle making sure the circumference is large enough to accommodate the top of the bottle.

With a Dremel, we finished cutting the hole and added a small groove on the bottom back of the wood piece with a cutter bit then sanded with a sanding bit to smooth the edges (and - of course - to make marketable since we're selling this piece on ebay).

Using 100 grit sand paper, we sanded the top and back of the wooden bottle stand.

We didn't touch the outside since it's beautiful as is. We simply applied three coats of furniture oil to bring out the color and grain.

We washed the bottle and removed the label, let dry then inserted a string of 30-count Christmas lights, making sure to run the cord in the groove we made earlier.

This project didn't even take up an entire day to create once the wood was dry.

Below are "rustic look" items to give as gifts... Or to buy for yourself.

Thanks for stopping by!

Repurposed Wine Bottle: A Special Homemade Gift

Lighted Wine Bottle or Wine Bottle With Lights

She loved it. This is how I will start today's blog about decorating a used wine bottle for repurposing as a gift.

When I handed the hand-painted, bow-adorned, filled-with-Christmas-lights wine bottle over to my best friend, I explained, "You see, it's filled with Christmas lights," then I plugged it into the socket over her kitchen counter.

"Ohhhh, I love it," she cried.

"And I used enamel glass paint to paint the leaves and dragonflies," I continued.

"Hon, look," she beckoned to her husband. "See what Deb made for me? It lights! This is sooooo cool. You should sell them," she told me.

"Not in Lawrence, I can't. No market but I'd like to try here in Bonner (Springs, KS)," I said.

The conclusion is the hand painted wine bottle I turned into a lit decoration was a marvelous hit which surprised me, somewhat. I felt a bit humble giving her something I had made but on the other hand I was proud of the nice looking piece. And now that I know there's a chance such a project could be desirable, I will make more and add them to my inventory of homemade gifts to give and sell.
